Various theories about their formation have flown around over the past two years, from asteroids, explosions and even UFOs. However, scientist have now revealed a startling conclusion. They believe that climate changed caused this freak geological occurance.
According to their discovery, permafrost (permanently frozen ground covering tundra) is beginning to melt. As the permafrost melted, methane trapped in the ice escaped and left behind these huge craters.
Unusual events like this will only increase in the future if we don’t do something to reduce global warming.
