The main idea of the project was to create an inspirational environment for composing a book. This quiet area located in Northern California is definitely very suitable for writers who can gather their thoughts and concentrate on writing in a peaceful encampment. These lovely cabins are especially designed for writers who seek solitude or those who would like to enjoy the California sunshine and rest from everyday worries.
This unique project was designed by Cass Calder Smith and is situated on Djerassi Resident Artists ranch, which is intended for supporting and enhancing the creativity of artists by providing uninterrupted time for work, reflection, and collegial interaction plus also a setting of great natural beauty.
Peaceful Northern California coast draws artists to the mountains for a creative escape
Design is unique and slightly different from other buildings. Encampment consists of four similar cabins where you don’t have to see anybody else. When guests look through the window, they only see nature, hills and the ocean. Nevertheless, there is an awareness that someone else is in the vicinity, which is sometimes good to know.
According to Smith about the artistic point of view, even functional object must be presented as a sculpture in the landscape, which is why these art cabins look so unique and aesthetic.
